Truck Shopping Is Easy When You Read This Article

by on May 01, 2019

Are you shopping for your next new or used vehicle? Do you need some ways to ensure the process is fun and more fun? This article will provide you with great advice that kind of advice. Continue reading to improve your car shopping easy.

Don't ever pay the full price! This number is not an accurate reflection of what the dealer thinks the car is worth.

You don't want to feel like you're rushed and commit to a deal that doesn't really make you comfortable. You need at least a full afternoon. If you do not have a lot of time, don't hesitate to come back when it is more convenient.

When you go car shopping, do not look at vehicles above your price range.

Test drive any car before you buy.

Never discuss down payments, what you have down, or trade-ins until you've established an actual price on your desired car. These items should all be subtracted from the bottom line price. You will probably get the best price this way.

Test drive the vehicle you are interested in before buying it. Even if you see exactly what you want at the dealership, take the few minutes needed to test drive it. There is no substitute for the feeling of driving the car.You may find that the car has a rougher ride and handling are not as smooth as you anticipated.

Rent cars to test it out. This will help you get a chance to spend some time driving the vehicle. Go on a trip in that car stands up to the abuse. This trick is an easy way to get lots of first hand experience with a vehicle before buying one.

You must know just how much you can afford. Determine the amount of money you can realistically spend on a monthly car payment. You might need to search for a loan shopping prior to car shopping.

Bring a friend with you on your car shopping trip who can give you sound advice on your decision to buy a car. They will stop you from making a decision based decision. Ask them ahead of time to keep their eyes and ears open for any possible problems or disadvantages that they identify during a test drive.

Ask the dealer to allow a mechanic examine the car. This mechanic needs to be one you trust.Don't use a mechanic your dealer suggests.A good mechanic will let you determine whether or not the car is in.

Research properly when you want to buy a car used. There are online sources on the Internet that can give you good values. NADA and Kelly Blue Book are useful in finding out the value of a car.If there is a dealer selling cars at too high of a price, then walk away.

Think about the MPG a car shopping. A car that gets good gas mileage may cost more up front, but it will save you a lot of money over the life of the car. Think about long term costs prior to picking out your budget.

Be sure to look for rebates before you go.Lots of car dealers offer on-site rebates in order to convince you to make a fast sale.

It can really work out for you to purchase a car later in the month. All dealerships need to meet monthly quotas. This can work toward your advantage because you negotiate the best price for your way.

Don't dress up when you go to the car dealership. It won't be easy convincing a salesperson that you wish a good rate if you are dressed up in fancy clothes.

Look at "hidden" expenses associated with buying that car. Different cars will have different insurance costs, fuel economy, resale values, and maintenance costs. Look into part costs, specialty oil change requirements, along with gas requirements. These hidden costs can make your ownership cost vary significantly.

Now that you have some terrific advice, get ready to have some fun while purchasing a vehicle. As long as you can afford it, you'll find that your new car will be a pleasure to drive every day of the year. It is the end result that makes the job of purchasing worth it.

WHY EPOXY IS A PREMIER GARAGE FLOOR COATING

by on May 01, 2019

One of the toughest and most durable finishes that you can apply to a garage floor today is an epoxy coating. Not only does it protect your garage floor, it can instantly transform your boring or ugly cement into a professional looking floor of beauty and function. And since the garage is fast becoming more than just a place where you park the car, the benefits of garage floor epoxy have quickly made it one of the top choices for garage flooring today.
Safety should be a strong consideration with taking on a roofing project. The weather is key to whether or not you should be up on a roof. Until the weather gets better, put a bucket underneath a leak. Check your roof out when the weather gets better to see if the issue is something you can fix.
Used for both residential and commercial applications, epoxy will give your garage or shop floor that showroom shine that says “look at me”! Depending on which application you choose, you can select from a variety of understated solid colors and hues, to custom colors and blends of color flakes that match your style or even your favorite sports team.
So let’s examine briefly what an epoxy coating really is, what the benefits are for you, learn how it’s applied, and some of the costs involved.
WHAT IS GARAGE FLOOR EPOXY?
When you fix a leak, it is imperative that you get the job done on the first go. You have to continue searching out problems, even if you find a spot with an issue. Check every square inch of your roof for problems; you might have a number of issues.
We’ll start by ending some confusion about epoxy right now. An epoxy garage floor coating is not paint. Paint for garage floors is a latex acrylic product. Some paints will have a small percentage of epoxy added to the mix to make it more durable than standard paint, but it is still paint. These are known as epoxy paints or 1-part epoxy paint.
epoxy garage floor with contraction joints
Epoxy is an actual thermosetting resin that is applied as a coating. It is formed when you mix one part epoxide resin with one part polyamine hardener. The hardener acts as a catalyst and is what gives epoxy its strength.
Make sure that you're secured in the right way anytime you're doing work on your roof. If you end up slipping, this could save your life.
Unlike paint that has to dry, epoxy actually cures. When the two parts are mixed, a chemical reaction is started which creates an exothermic curing process. This curing process produces polymer structures that are closely cross-linked giving epoxy its superior strength and durability. The end result is a coating that is much thicker than paint and bonds tenaciously to a properly prepared surface.
BENEFITS OF A GARAGE FLOOR EPOXY COATING
So what makes an epoxy coating one of the best finishes for your garage floor? Besides looking nice, the hardened and thick application that you get from epoxy creates a coating that is very durable and resilient to impacts, chipping, chemicals, stains, and surface abrasion. You don’t have to panic about damaging the floor if you drop a wrench or a bicycle falls over.
Prior to the removal of your old roof, make sure your lawn is cut short. This will ensure he can find any dropped nails easily. If you get a contractor that has a nail finder with magnets on it, it will work better in shorter grasses.
The thicker coating also does a great job of covering over minor imperfections such as small spider cracks and flaws in the concrete. Because epoxy is a topical sealer, it is also anti-dusting. Much of the dust in a garage is created from the powder that a cement floor can shed. Normal traffic on bare concrete can kick up this dusty powder that has a tendency of collecting on cars, tool benches, and storage items, as well as being tracked into the house.
As a topical coating it is also naturally moisture resistant. This is a great benefit for people who live in snowy climates. It makes for easy cleaning of icy brines and road salts that can collect on the floor during the winter. Just a little mild soap and water is all it takes. Dust and debris can be collected with a dust mop or soft broom when the floor is dry.
Depending on whether you added colored acrylic flakes to the floor and the type of topcoat used, some surfaces can be slippery when wet. For people who live in drier climates this usually isn’t an issue. If you want some extra grip however, you can add slip resistant aggregate to the final coat that will create a non-skid surface.
It is your responsibility to know what's involved in hiring a suitable roofing contractor. You shouldn't hire the first or the cheapest one you find. Take the time to find out more about all the roofing contractors in the area. You should ask friends, search online, or even use a referral service that looks for workers for you that are trusted.

Epoxy coatings receive high reviews from the home mechanics and hobbyists as well. Since it is both chemical and stain resistant, oil, brake fluids, anti-freeze, gasoline, and other caustic car chemicals can easily be wiped up without worry – even if it sits for a while. Rolling tool boxes, jacks, and jack stands will not damage the floor either. It also brightens up the garage environment because it is very light reflective depending on what type of finish you choose.
If you require the services of a roofing contractor, look into his credentials and experience. You might try to get referrals from family and friends for good people. Referrals can help you avoid getting an inferior roof installed, along with the cost and frustration of correcting the mistakes.
As tough as this type of garage floor covering is, it’s not resistant to everything however. Welding is hard on epoxy because it can create burn marks from the hot slag that falls on it. It’s also not a good choice for garage floors that have moisture issues. The rate of moisture vapor transmission from underneath the slab can cause epoxy to delaminate if it is too high.
Review the different coating options for epoxy floors
The age of your roof often determines if it's time to have it replaced. Roofs have, generally, about 20 years of life in them. Therefore, once your roof reaches this age, you need to replace it in order to prevent damage to your home.
A common question that pops up about epoxy garage floors is hot tire pick up. This is caused when the hot tires from your car can soften lessor quality coatings. The tires then cool down and contract after driving which causes the tire tread to literally grab and pull at the surface of the still soft coating. This process will actually cause the epoxy to delaminate as the tire pulls it up off the floor.
Hot tire pick up is a problem that is associated more with the lesser quality products such as store bought epoxy paint kits. These are usually water based coatings that are 50% solids at best and only 3 mils thick, as compared to 100% solids epoxy that is 10 mils or more thick. These thicker coating are generally found in quality commercial grade product or professionally installed coatings.
Because the thicker, multiple coat epoxy floors wear so well, warranties of up to 15 years or more for installation by professional installers is becoming common. Many manufacturers of 100% solids epoxy warranty the product against defects for the life of the floor.
Before you actually start installing new shingles, be sure to carefully examine your materials. Leaks can occur if sub-par materials are installed. Check every inch of your shingles to maintain high quality.

HOW GARAGE FLOOR EPOXY IS APPLIED
Epoxy garage floors require good floor preparation which is critical for a successful coating. This usually involves some form of either floor grinding, shot blasting or acid etching of the floor to profile the concrete for the epoxy. It’s very critical that it is done right or the epoxy coating will not adhere properly. Patching or repairing any cracks or other damage to the concrete before the epoxy is applied is required as well.
Only employ roofing contractors that can give you proof of insurance and an active license. If they can't then look elsewhere. You have no options of recourse if their work is not up to standard.
Quality epoxy floor systems usually involve multiple coats to insure a very tough and resistant coating that will last for years. Many times this will involve an epoxy primer which is applied first.
diagram of epoxy floor systemThe primer is what binds to the concrete to provide adhesion for the subsequent layers and provide for a higher build. Some primers will also act as a moisture barrier for those cement floors that are somewhat susceptible to moisture vapor that moves up from the soil through the concrete to the surface.
The next coat is the color coat or base coat. This may sometimes be applied without primer depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations. This coat will also receive the application of colored acrylic paint chips to add density and texture if so desired. The final coat is the clear top coat. This is what gives the finish that glossy look and depth that these floors are known for.
Don't forget the little things when hiring a contractor. If someone makes it to all their appointments on time, or calls you at the time they told you they would, it's likely that they're reliable. A contractor who provides you with a typed bid demonstrates professionalism on his part. These are all qualities you want your prospective roofer to have.
Epoxy coated garage floors in various colors and paint chip applications
One option would be a system that includes a polyurethane top coat. Epoxy will yellow or amber, as the industry calls it, when exposed to sunlight over a period of time. Polyurethane is a two part polymer that hardens just like epoxy and is used as a sealer and protectant. When used in the color coat and top coat with epoxy, it will resist the yellowing effect that happens when exposed to sun.
GARAGE FLOOR EPOXY COSTS
Find out if your contractor is a part of any industry associations. Reputable firms will be interested in staying up to date with current trends and methods in the industry. If they are not keeping up to date, it may be wise to look elsewhere.
The least expensive method to achieve a quality coating is to apply the garage floor epoxy yourself. This isn’t too difficult for the ambitious “do it yourself” person. A quality single coat 100% solids epoxy kit that will cover a standard 2-car garage can be purchased for less than $300. This doesn’t include any expense for floor prep or additional tools however. Expect to pay approximately $200 more if you want to add a clear top coat.
A professional installation generally starts around $4.00 a square foot depending on the competition and area you live in. This usually includes a minimum of 3 coats and the cost goes up from there depending on the amount of top coats involved and how much color flake is applied in the base coat. A typical 2-car garage is approximately 400ft² to get an idea of cost.
Because of the curing time needed between epoxy coats, total time to complete the job and be able to park your car is approximately 3 to 5 days. There are now newer polyaspartic and polyurea floor coating systems that are fast curing that can be applied all in one day and driven on the next. Professional installation of these systems start around $6.00 a square foot. Because of their fast cure rate, they should not be applied by the average DIY person who is not confident in their abilities.
If a unique roof is something that you want to get, such as one with turrets on it or maybe metal plating installed, you have to talk with the roofer to see if they have experience with those things. If they have limited knowledge, find someone else. You should take risks with your roof.
When reviewing the different epoxy options available, the best garage floor epoxy is going to be a 100% solids multi-coat system. Though it is the more expensive option for a floor covering, it is arguably one of the most economical of installations when compared over the duration of the floor.
Whether you are turning your garage into a show piece for storage and cars or just want something to protect your garage for years to come, a good system such as this will last years and give you one of the best returns for the dollar.

How To Apply Coatings To Your Garage Floor

An extreme polishing systems in Deerfield Beach - we are here at Don Garrity from HP, Sparta Co. Welcome Don, thank you for having me Chris. I appreciate it beautiful weather down here. I painted on to say that okay, so I just want to know okay, but it is beautiful weather wherever you are, it's always 80 degrees in South Florida and it never rains anyways uh right now. At this point, in this lab, we basically put down like a primer coat right, put that a base coat of black and we're going to follow it up with a pigmented metallic. This is this: is the metallic blue mixed into the part AI haven't activated it yet? So as soon as I activate it, we have 25 minutes to push it out here and I'll. Do it application for you all right great? Well, let's have some fun. Okay, enjoy this all righty all right, I'm going to activate it with the B right now and that'll start its live and hopefully the little walk and a half. Here we go okay, we're going to activate this up, and this takes about a minute or two to stir this product up. All we're trying to do is break down the metallic flakes when we put this product out it's in the eye of the beholder how its applicated you cannot roll it in straight back and roll forth motions just to cover the slab. You would do that, but then you have to kind of do it in a an artist fashion. However, is there a lot, however, anybody wants to do it. You can do this with a squeegee. You can do it with a trowel or you can do it. I'M going to be using an 18 inch, 3/8 nap roller so with the short mix here, roll up its a product down here on the floor. Let'S you see how beautiful it is. Okay looks kind of pretty like that. All things you just got to leave it like that they were just like that, and one thing you do want to do. Is you want to saturate your roller up? Okay, make sure that you got all your edges of your roller cover cause. You don't want you. Don'T want dry roller marks in this product pretty much. What you want to do is cover the slab you're not going to make big puddles. Let'S just get the just get the slab wet it out. First, this way doesn't matter what direction you look like this in the end is, as you can see, there's no method to its just cover the cover up the slab. At this point we get out in this area once it's covered, you want to take your roller swirl. A little bit give a little action. I just remember: it's important got 25 minutes to use it, so you have plenty of time. You just want to make sure you get in this lab go to code as it is a code. You have to cover every issue. Once you get it once you get us into some clashing, you want to kind of swirl around a picture, start motional. What you want, so you can see that it's kind of a self modelling where it'll make its own patterns. You want to give it the start of the pattern, and you don't want it to look straight lines so just kind of throw anyway 3:8 nice. Okay, when you go up there and look on that edge, you're going to go back around and give it a little more deference as we go like I said again, the most important part at this stage is to get this slab totally covered inside the house and Raju everything this you can put anywhere if you're doing it inside of a house, I would recommend using our pure Cisco, okay. Okay, it does the same ecstasy, it's just no odor and no VOCs. Once you once you get this something happy once you get your pallet covered, then what you want to do. Is you just want to go back, I'm just going to walk all the way around the slab here, it's kind of give you an idea what you can do with it. This is something for the top pull down. You know you can put a top coat of clear on it with anti-slip assured, barley, Isis, and what, if possible, you like? It'S not it's not totally required, because this isn't optimal. Okay, all of our coatings. All of our coatings are the same. They are top coats. Intermedia coats and so forth now, if you're going 600 square feet, you're on spike you're on spike right well, this poor she's you'd be going and working your way back. We'Re going way back absolutely not have a guy out there doing the motion, I'm still actually, by the way you guys probably see, then we do salsa spikes, okay in medium, large and x-large - that you actually click your boosters. This can choose into they're not like rocks. It'S got a shoe Indiana. My plan they're, like $ 89 for heritage grants. When you get to this point, the floor basically is done, get about 15 minutes, you'll, see where it will take its own little. You can do whatever you want to do with the store. You know people like to be skips unaware, whatever you want to do it don't matter, some people get brushes and brush it. You can also spritz out denatured, alcohol or acetone on this to give it wing crater effect. Okay, do we have here what Capital Area Devils there? I do not have clear acetone as America's got color and I don't think it's going to matter it's going to just going to be years, I'd be creating something right now driving for his jug of this drop. What'S this air, this hair? No, he does dry clay and the other nice thing is, you can add, you can add to it. Take away from whatever you'd like to do. You want a little darker, just add more products to it. Okay, you can mix up. You can mix up multiple colors if you'd like to and add them together. The talent wars are just a preference of the applicator. You

DECORATIVE CONCRETE: POLYASPARTIC POLYUREA COATINGS

Polyaspartic polyureas are fairly new in the marketplace and have great potential for decorative concrete because of their many unique qualities. Contractors are currently using them as clear coats over finishes such as stamped, stained, colored, and stenciled concrete, and as pigmented coatings, which includes the addition of decorative media. There is also some experimentation with applications on exterior slab-on-grade decorative work.
Affiliates that are a good fit for your products and your company will be the most useful. You will gain many different income streams by signing up with a large number of affiliate networks. It's important to not contract with affiliates that you don't stand behind. If you wouldn't buy their product, then you shouldn't endorse it through affiliate marketing.
History
Aspartic esters were invented and patented by Bayer Corp. in the 1990s. Aspartic resins followed and the manufacturer found that films could be formed which were very dense and shiny, leading to the creation of polyaspartic aliphatic polyureas. Now several companies have introduced formulations that contractors can use commercially. Their formulations share several common properties but there are also benefits and cautions unique to each product on the market.
Polyureas are 2-component materials. The system works when a resin is mixed with a catalyst, usually a polyisocyanate, which causes a reaction and develops a polymer compound. The first to be marketed were aromatic polyureas but installing them required expensive spraying equipment that mixed parts A and B together at the spray tip, with hardening of the material following a few seconds later. Aromatic polyureas are also susceptible to UV degradation at the membrane's surface.
Many affiliate marketers try too hard to attain "super" affiliate status. These affiliates spread themselves so thin that they can't be competitive in this fast paced world. Maximum results do not exist. You need to be patient and find a gradual approach that works for you.
Remarkable properties
Within the past couple of years several companies have introduced polyaspartic polyurea products with remarkable features compared to other coating materials:
They can be applied at temperatures as low as -30°F and as high as 140°F, depending on the product. In hot and cold climates contractors can install them all year long.
Try looking into the practice of secret links. There are stealthy techniques that let you bake lots of affiliate links into your text without them being completely obvious. Make the most of this method, but do not try to fool your audience. Make sure your customers know the context of the link so they will not be surprised.
When cured they can tolerate temperatures as high as 350°F.
They are UV light stable, providing “water clear” finishes.
Polyureas have much greater abrasion and impact resistance than either epoxy or urethane coatings.
You will lose some customers and have to replace them with others. Send out the best-performing emails to help get new customers. These should interest them from the start.
They do not blush or whiten.
Curing is quick and work can be turned over to owners for use within a couple hours after application.
High ambient humidity doesn't restrict their application, although some products set more quickly in high humidity.
Affiliates need to apply text services that can help them gain additional commissions. Potential buyers are already being reached by a multitude of affiliates who employ the new versions of text services.
They don't stain, they resist fat and oil penetration, and concrete is protected from mild acids.
Polyureas have excellent wetting and penetrating characteristics, which means they form excellent bonds to concrete.
Preparing concrete
Keep your affiliate links related to the same theme as your site. An example would be a sports equipment link on a sports related site. Unless you link to another sports-related affiliate, the link will not be very effective or beneficial. Website visitors show higher click-through rates on links that are related to what they came to read about.
There are different thoughts among formulators about the preparation needed for concrete applications. The type of application also matters. Jack Bracco, president of Flexmar Coatings, New Kensington, Pa., says that the excellent “wetting” ability of polyaspartic polyureas and the way they penetrate concrete makes low profile preparation for decorative concrete possible.
Most polyaspartic polyureas products have excellent “wetting” characteristics and penetrate into concrete on the first application, providing good bond strength. Notice that the contractor ground into the aggregate at the control joint to eliminate the effect of curling. Joints are cleaned and repaired with polyurea or epoxy products.
Garage Floors 1
Every affiliate website is different. There are sites out there that are badly designed and very annoying to move around in. This may not be the best scenario, however, ambitious owners won't allow the design of the site to prevent them from generating income. This builds trust in customers and encourages them to purchase items.

Notice that the contractor ground into the aggregate at the control joint to eliminate the effect of curling. Joints are cleaned and repaired with polyurea or epoxy products.
Some contractors profile their slabs with grinders using 40 to 80 grit diamond pads. Lonnie Salyers, a technical representative for Sherwin Williams, Cleveland, says that heavier polyurea coatings for industrial floors should be profiled with shotblasting equipment. He adds that for decorative concrete receiving a thin film coating, thoroughly cleaning with a power washer may be adequate. Art Weiss, technical supervisor for Versa Flex, Kansas City, Mo., says that his company recommends removing the cement paste from the surface and neutralizing all soluble salts. They recommend following the guidelines set forth by professional associations like the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI).
Joe Sheehan, owner of Garage Floors 1, Oakdale, Minn., an application contractor, says he's developed a system for preparing slabs by diamond grinding with a dry vacuum pick-up to achieve an 80 grit profile. “I know that my preparation is good when the primary coat absorbs completely into the surface,” he says. Hugh Monteiph, owner of Ameridream, Ventura, Calif. specializes in water-based stain finish decorative work. He says he applies a citric acid wash and pressure washes with a turbo tip to prepare his slabs before staining. Neither contractor reports any scaling, debonding, or other problems involving polyurea coatings to date.
It's imperative to have access to real time statistics. These will help you to track how much traffic your site is getting, and exactly how many of your products have been purchased.
Moisture content in slabs?
The weakest link for concrete countertops is the sealer. Polyaspartic polyureas solve this problem. They are very heat resistant, waterproof, stain and acid resistant, and don't soften with oils or fats.
Pure Texture, Mobile, Ala.
Attaching a deadline to the purchase of a particular affiliate product can be a terrific marketing strategy. If visitors think that time is running out, they might feel encouraged to buy the product before time expires. This approach is likely to render a greater amount of sales.
The weakest link for concrete countertops is the sealer. Polyaspartic polyureas solve this problem. They are very heat resistant, waterproof, stain and acid resistant, and don't soften with oils or fats.
Polyureas don't transmit water vapor so they are considered waterproof. Most manufacturers interviewed said that aspartic ester polyureas “wet out” and penetrate concrete surfaces to achieve a superior bond. This bonding ability may prevent moisture vapor transmission issues. Manufacturers agree however, that the moisture content of concrete shouldn't exceed 3 pounds per 1000 square feet using the calcium chloride test at the time of application to ensure that the primer application will penetrate the surface properly.
Lifetime affiliate commissions are much less common than they used to be. They should still be sought out since they could offer great rewards, though. Webmasters get a cut on products sold through affiliates. There may be a limit to the time in which a customer makes a buy to if you are going to get your commission. There may be a limit to the time in which a customer makes a buy that determines if you will receive your commission. This feature makes them valuable.
Application
Sheehan says he installs three applications; a primer (which penetrates into the surface), a “build coat” containing the decorative application if it's more than a clear coat, and a top coat. Most of his work is 20 to 25 mils in thickness when he includes vinyl chips in his finishes. Weiss says that 6 to 8 mil thicknesses are normal and will provide “hiding capacity” when pigments are added.
With no sunshine there are no workers' shadows on the concrete, but their reflections appear on the coating due to the glossy surface that polyureas provide.
Don't base the success of your affiliate marketing venture on a limited number of affiliate partners. Try to get a number of product and vendors on your side. If the success of your venture rests on a wide base of products and affiliates, your business will suffer little damage if you have to cut one of your affiliates because the relationship is unprofitable. If you feel like you can advertise more products easily, try to find some good options.
Garage Floors 1
With no sunshine there are no workers' shadows on the concrete, but their reflections appear on the coating due to the glossy surface that polyureas provide.
Polyaspartic polyureas are sold as 100% solids material, with solvents added, or with recommendations about adding solvents. With the addition of solvents the material is less viscous and there is increased penetration into a slab. Pot life is also increased.
You need to make sure that you remain relevant if you wish to find success with affiliate marketing. Make sure to keep yourself current on any changes that affiliate programs you work with are implementing. New techniques are being created to improve usability and increase the appeal of advertisements.
Another advantage of polyaspartic polyureas is that the material doesn't outgas. Concrete still traps air though, and it can escape into a coating after it's applied. It's best to apply coatings when ambient temps are declining. But because they set so quickly, there is less likelihood of trapping air in polyureas.
In terms of application, Salyers warns that humidity accelerates setting time. When his product is applied at 40% humidity the setting time might be 30 to 40 minutes. But at 90% humidity it can decrease to 15 minutes.
Affiliate marketers need to appear credible to their customers. A subtlety is required when inserting links. If you have done the right thing you will be able to see if someone is a partner.

POLYUREA AND POLYASPARTIC GARAGE FLOOR COATINGS

by on May 01, 2019

Polyurea / polyaspartic garage floor coating
One garage flooring option that has created quite a buzz in the industry the last few years is polyurea/polyaspartic floor coatings. This relatively new coating has become the latest favorite for installers as an alternative to epoxy. It has created some confusion for home owners as well. The fast curing ability of this system is being billed as the “Holy Grail” of floor coatings and is advertised as the best of everything that a coating can do.
Wash your car regularly to prevent rust from becoming a problem. Rust will happen, but you can slow things down by keeping the car clean. Wax your car to keep paint in good condition, too.
So if it’s not an epoxy, what is it exactly and why would you want it on your garage floor? Let’s unravel the confusion about polyurea and polyaspartic floor coatings and see why many garage flooring companies are pushing this new product.
WHAT ARE POLYUREA AND POLYASPARTIC COATINGS
Without getting too technical, Polyurea is a subgroup of polyurethane. It is formed when isocyanates react with water or polyetheramines to create a urea linkage. Like epoxy, it is a 2-part component that mixes resin with a catalyst to cause the curing reaction that makes the material hard.
A great way to get a good mechanic is by asking around. Ask around for recommendations. You can find out about the quality of service and the costs. These people will be able to inform you of their experience with the mechanic.
It has low to no VOC’s and has an elongation rate that exceeds 300%, making it much more flexible than epoxy. It is commonly used for spray-on bed liners, interior pipe coating, liquid containment lining and many other industrial applications such as tunnel coatings and fillers for joints. Because of its extremely fast cure rate (less than 5 seconds and fully hard in less than 5 minutes), most polyureas require specialized equipment for application.
Polyaspartic is a type of aliphatic polyurea. To quote Bayer Material Science:
“By definition, a polyaspartic is an aliphatic polyurea because it is the reaction of an aliphatic polyisocyanate with a polyaspartic ester – which is an aliphatic diamine”.
Keep a record when your car is fixed or maintained. If you have problems later, it may help the mechanic to see these notes. If you don't have these kinds of records it could cost you more because you won't be able to locate the problems quickly.
What polyaspartics do is conquer the difficulties of the extremely fast cure rate of polyurea in order to apply the coating in a more traditional manner, with a longer pot life of 5 to 120 minutes depending on the formulation.
So in essence, all polyaspartics are a polyurea, but not all polyureas are a polyaspartic. So to lessen the confusion, this means that when you see a garage floor coating or kit being advertised as a polyurea, or a polyurea polyaspartic, it is really some formulation of a polyaspartic coating.
BENEFITS OF POLYASPARTIC COATINGS
Do an online search of reviews about your local automotive repair shop. These reviews will inform you of the company's quality, customer service satisfaction rates, etc. The knowledge can be very helpful when it comes time to make a final decision on which place to go to with your car.
Now that we’ve covered these eye numbing explanations, what does it mean for you? The two biggest advantages of a polyaspartic or polyurea garage floor coating are temperature and time.
Unlike epoxy, a polyaspartic coating can be applied in temperatures as low as -30F to as high as 140F depending on the formulation. That means you don’t have to wait till spring or summer to coat your garage floor if you live in a colder climate.
Typical polyurea and polyaspartic floor coatings are applied in just two coats; the first being both the primer and color coat and the second being the clear coat. Because of their fast cure rates, a complete flooring system can be installed in one day and returned to service the next. This means that you won’t have to do without your garage for 3-4 days like you would for a full epoxy system.
When visiting a repair shop, be mindful of warning signs that the shop is not a good one. Someone who gives vague answers to direct questions, or ignores them altogether, may not have the necessary knowledge to give you quality service. If your gut feeling is that you don't quite trust your mechanic, keep looking for one who inspires confidence in you and helps you understand the problems with your car.
There are many other benefits to a polyurea/polyaspartic floor coating as well. These include:
100% U.V. stability – they will never yellow.
Crystal clear finish that won’t blush from moisture in the concrete.
Has your mechanic worked on your model of vehicle before? While basic components may be the same, there are differences between cars due to the amount of space beneath the hood. If you're unsure about your chosen mechanic's ability, consider having a dealer repair your vehicle.
Similar high abrasion and scratch resistance to polyurethane.
High tolerance to heat, meaning hot tire pick up is a non-issue.
High film build-up that can be controlled by the applicator.
If you're having serious repairs done on your vehicle, make sure to get multiple estimates. Even though mechanics are trustworthy in general, you could still wind up paying for more than you should. Shop around for shops with a good reputation and experience in your vehicle's make. Shops like this may understand your car's needs better.
High gloss finish
High solids content with little to no VOC’s in most applications.
High stain and chemical resistance. This includes salts for winter climates.
Replacing your own taillights and headlights is an easy way to save money. It's easy in some vehicles, and it's a lot cheaper than having someone else do it. Ask your friends and relatives if they can help with this small repair.
Good flexibility for higher impact resistance.
Excellent wetting characteristics allowing for good penetration into the concrete for a strong bond.
Decreased chance of bubbles from outgassing due to the faster cure rate.
Your wiper blades should never be forgotten about. If your windshield wipers cause streaks or make noises, they may need replacing. Try to replace these blades once a year so that you can drive safely in the rain.
COSTS AND INSTALLATION FACTORS
Though a polyaspartic or polyurea flooring system does have some great benefits, there are some other factors to consider before you decide if this is the best system for you.
The first is cost. To have it professionally installed will cost an average of $2 to $3 more per square foot than an equivalent epoxy and polyurethane system.
Talk to your friends about their auto repair experiences before choosing a repair shop. You may get a few recommendations from your friends and family that make your search easier. Still, you should do some research on the shops they recommend. At least look for online reviews of those recommendations.
It is also not the most user friendly “do it yourself” installation and requires a minimum of two people to apply. Depending on the formulation of the polyaspartic, the average pot life is only 20 to 25 minutes. This can be very intimidating if you haven’t done a floor coating before. Also, the materials alone can cost almost twice as much as epoxy.
A good example by Advacoat on how a polyaspartic floor coating is installed
Know what all the lights stand for on your dashboard and be aware of when they go off. Use them to your advantage, they're put there to guide you. Don't ignore any dashboard lights that come on, as the problem may grow worse if it's ignored.
One thing to keep in mind is that like epoxy, not all polyaspartics are created equal. Some of the DIY kits that are being offered are not of the same quality as the more professional versions. So shop around and compare if you want to install a garage floor coating yourself. The formulations are different and come with a lower solids content in order to lengthen the pot life. Grinding the concrete is also the recommended floor prep.
While polyurea / polyaspartic coatings are not affected by water or humidity when fully cured, humidity during installation can cause the coating to cure much more rapidly and should be monitored before installation.
***UPDATE***
Ensure that your oil is changed with regularity. Your car's oil is a big part of how well it functions. If you do not have your oil changed on a regular basis, you are risking serious damage to your engine. Try to remind yourself every 3,000 miles.
There are now newer single-part polyurea garage floor coatings available that are extremely easy to apply. They have and unlimited pot life and excellent protection. Learn about single-part polyurea here.
Another consideration is that if you are a regular garage mechanic, polyaspartics don’t stand up as well to battery acids like epoxy and polyurethane does. They also can be very slippery when wet. If you are not applying full paint chips to add texture, it is advisable to add a slip resistant aggregate into the top coat to increase the anti-slip properties of the coating.
One of the biggest reasons that professional installers are offering polyaspartic floor coatings is to sell the benefit of being without your garage for only a day. A good installer can prep your concrete and install your coating in as little as 6 – 8 hours. You can be moving your belongings back into the garage before the day is done and park your car in it the next. This can be a huge advantage for people who can’t be without their garage for 3 or 4 days.
If you need collision repair, it is smart to take photos before you give your car to the body shop. A lot of shops aren't going to strip things out of your vehicle, but some will if they are trying to make more money. You are safer if you have documentation of the condition of your car prior to having any work done on it.
If you need to have a garage floor coating installed in less than ideal temperatures or need the advantage of being without your garage for only a day, then a professionally installed polyurea or polyaspartic floor coating may be just what you need. It is a great garage flooring option if the cost is in the budget.
